Strong winds drive grassland fires in China

چکیده
Abstract Accounting for 41.7% of China’s total land area, grasslands are linked to the livelihoods over 20 million people. Although grassland fires cause severe damage in China every year, their spatiotemporal patterns and climate drivers not well understood. In this study, we used fire record forms provided by National Forestry Grassland Administration location data from Wildfire Atlas examine seasonality period 2008 2020. We found that most occurred Inner Mongolia northern China, specifically Hulun Buir Xilingol grasslands. distinct differences which has a major season April, versus southwestern where occurs February, March April. April result strong winds, typically west, spring drought. A secondary October is also driven winds. The seems be less shaped climatic factors such as wind speed, precipitation, This study provides support decision-making prevention management authorities China.

A Physics-Based Approach to Modeling Grassland Fires
Physics-based coupled fire-atmosphere models are based on approximations to the governing equations of fluid dynamics, combustion, and the thermal degradation of solid fuel. They require significantly more computational resources than the most commonly used fire spread models, which are semi-empirical or empirical. However, there are a number of fire behavior problems, of increasing relevance, ...
متن کاملEdge fires drive the shape and stability of tropical forests.
In tropical regions, fires propagate readily in grasslands but typically consume only edges of forest patches. Thus, forest patches grow due to tree propagation and shrink by fires in surrounding grasslands. The interplay between these competing edge effects is unknown, but critical in determining the shape and stability of individual forest patches, as well the landscape-level spatial distribu...

With the rapid development of economy in China, many big city groups were established. Consequent to having so many big fires in the world and implementing performance-based design for new buildings having difficulties to comply with the prescriptive fire codes, evacuation in a fire has to be studied carefully in many big projects. Human behaviour in fires becomes a hot research topic in China....
متن کاملStrong Shocks and Supersonic Winds in Inhomogeneous Media
Many astrophysical flows occur in inhomogeneous media. The broad-line regions (BLR) of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) are one of the important examples where emission-line clouds interact with the outflow. We present results of a numerical study of the interaction of a steady, planar shock / supersonic postshock flow with a system of embedded cylindrical clouds in a two-dimensional geometry. Det...
